CYCLOPS FAQ¶
Which platforms can we install CYCLOPS on?¶
Cyderes offers CYCLOPS images for VMware, GCP, AWS, and Azure. With CYCLOPS V2, we have expanded our support to include a wide range of cloud platforms and VM formats, and we now also offer support for ISO installation.
Can a single-node CYCLOPS cluster be upgraded to a HA CYCLOPS cluster?¶
Yes. To upgrade a single-node CYCLOPS instance to a High Availability (HA) configuration, you will need to establish a Load Balancer (LB) or Virtual IP (VIP) that targets all CYCLOPS instances. Additionally, you'll need to contact your Cyderes representative to generate a registration token and set up a secondary CYCLOPS instance that meets our HA requirements. Once you receive the second token, you'll register your second CYCLOPS instance by configuring and registering the instance using the HA requirements outlined above.
Will a single-node CYCLOPS cluster experience downtime?¶
Yes. CYCLOPS clusters are upgraded and cycled on the first Thursday of each month. Additionally, any service disruption that interrupts CYCLOPS traffic will result in data loss. Cyderes recommends HA Clusters to ensure a CYCLOPS instance is always available for log ingestion.
Can we get local access to our CYCLOPS instances?¶
No. CYCLOPS instances are managed by Cyderes personnel. Local access is prohibited for all users. Any maintenance operations performed by Cyderes use restricted service accounts with least-privileged access. This applies to both CYCLOPS V1 and V2.
Can we install local tools on CYCLOPS instances?¶
No. CYCLOPS is built using a customized immutable Linux-based image. CYCLOPS instances cannot install custom tools or packages. This applies to both CYCLOPS V1 and V2.
Do we need to recreate CYCLOPS clusters if our infrastructure changes broke communication?¶
If you've reverted any configuration changes that caused outages, you can confirm whether your CYCLOPS instances are ingesting logs using the CYCLOPS metrics dashboard found in my.cyderes.com. If you are unsure whether your CYCLOPS instances are ingesting logs, please reach out to your Cyderes representative.
Can we move CYCLOPS instances to a new networking space?¶
No. CYCLOPS clusters register to Cyderes services and HA instances using IP addresses and unique IDs generated during the registration process. If you need to move your CYCLOPS clusters, please reach out to your Cyderes representative to coordinate provisioning a replacement CYCLOPS cluster in the new networking space.
